Challenge

Music sharing feels fragmented and impersonal, so the goal was to design a simple, intuitive way for people to share songs and connect authentically through a community-driven experience.

Solution

Design a music-first social platform that empowers fans and artists to connect, share, and discover — driven by community instead of algorithms, and enriched through powerful music metadata and APIs.

Constrains

The project was developed within a short timeframe. It focuses on MVP features and relies on third-party streaming platform APIs for metadata integration and consistency.

Impact

Early testing confirmed that users would feel more connected to their music community, validating the MVP’s value proposition. This created a solid foundation for scalability and future growth, proving that a simple, music-first experience could foster meaningful engagement.

Research & Insights

Understanding how the music community connects

After desk research, a benchmark, a survey for fans and musicians (+165 answers), 4 interviews with fans and musicians, a shadowing session and a safari, I extracted the following main insights:

There is not single platform that unites music lovers

Most music platforms are too specific, and there is no widely adopted place where fans and musicians can come together with all the resources they need in one place.

Accessing the community is difficult

There is a strong sense of community among music lovers, but it’s still difficult to access and engage with it.

Music jams and venues are hard to discover, bands struggle to find committed members with similar interests, and musicians feel their content doesn’t stand out.

Users crave a more human experience

Today, music is driven by algorithms and numbers, but what fans truly want is a space to share and experience music with people who share their passion. Both fans and musicians long for a way to connect more directly.

There is a discrepancy across streaming platforms

Users often share links to their favorite songs, but their friends use different streaming platforms — so most of the time, they never end up listening to the music.

“Platforms nowdays rely too much on algorythms, but music is something more human. There are some apps, they all have different purposes, but they don’t join the music community.”

Solution

A music-first united platform for the community

Music lovers are looking for a music-first app where he can share his songs with the community, no matter the platform, and where we can also connect and discover music posted by fans or musicians they like.

Music-first

WeTune aims to become the central music platform — a space where fans and musicians can connect, share, and discover.

It brings events, opportunities, and music resources together in one place, making the whole music ecosystem feel unified and accessible.

Alike users based on profiles

Users can choose to be fans, musicians, or both. The app tailors the experience to each profile, dividing the feed so artists gain visibility while fans see content that fits their taste

It also helps musicians find potential bandmates with a similar style, and enables natural interaction between both profiles through shared music interests.

Communities

Users post music through APIs that pull and unify metadata from streaming platforms.

WeTune curates this content and organizes it into genre-based communities, where people can explore posts from others with similar taste and filter by tags, artists, bands, or specific songs to refine discovery.

Personalized

Users select their preferred streaming platforms, and every shared song appears with a preview and a direct link adapted to their choice.

This makes recommendations effortless and immediate, reducing friction and turning music discovery into something intuitive and engaging.

Prototypes

How the music community connects

Discover what your friends and favorite bands are listening to

See what songs your friends are now playing or have been playing.

Besides, check what your fans and musicians you follow have been sharing. New music recommendations!

Share your favorite songs

Want to share a song, album or artist you like? Go ahead!

As all music content is associated with an ID, you can import from any streaming platform and edit the data you want to display based on selected options.

Discover new pop bands and songs — and fans

As the music genre is extracted from streaming platform's metadata thanks to the APIs, the content can be organized by communities.

So you can discover new music content shared by fans or musicians by genre!

Or filter to search by album, artist, song, duration… Maybe you can know and connect with new Sabrina Carpenter fans!

Share and chat with other fans

You can also connect with the community individually. Send songs and share your opinion.

Songs will be stored so you don't lose any musical connection between both of you! You won't forget that Boygenius song Jackson asked you to listen to.
